Unlocking the Value of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

About the OSSD diploma

In Canada, the education system is divided and independently managed by each province. In this context, the province of Ontario stands out with a comprehensive and high-quality education program. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is an internationally recognized certificate from Ontario, which serves as an entry requirement for many prestigious universities worldwide, including Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. Having an OSSD opens up numerous opportunities for students to access top-ranked universities globally.

In an increasingly competitive and globalized world, the OSSD diploma offers students a variety of advantages, including:

International Learning Environment: Students can use English to learn knowledge in all fields. Students who are recognized with OSSD degrees can be exempted from submitting IELTS certificates when applying to universities and exempt from writing entrance tests for admission to some universities in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, and many other Asian universities, if you achieve a minimum score of 85% in English subject ENG41J (Grade 12 English).

The OSSD diploma is widely recognized at many universities worldwide: in North America (Canada and the United States), Oceania (Australia and New Zealand), and Asia (Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, …). Top universities in the United States and Canada also recognize and admit students with an OSSD, allowing them to bypass the SAT standardized test for admission purposes

The OSSD program evaluates based on credits: instead of studying for the results of one or multiple standardized exams, students are comprehensively assessed based on the completed credit volume. In the Ontario program, students need to complete 8 compulsory credits, 12 elective credits, 40 hours of community involvement, and pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (students can also choose to take an Ontario Literacy Course instead of the test).

Students can have opportunities for transfer study in Canada with a 40% schoolarship the first year and 25% for subsequent years at Toronto Academy of EMC. Find out more about our admission and schoolarship program at Admission and Schoolarship Program Details 2024 – 2025.
